This is by far one of the hardest things I’ve had get through my stubborn, thick skull. Growing up I read all the Bible stories, I went to all the conventions, somewhat stayed up throughout the all-night services and still missed the most basic concept of relation. I got stuck in a ritualistic routine doing things because I thought it’ll get me to the place we all desire to go to; not knowing I was missing the most crucial aspect of the journey. What is a journey without a purpose? It’s brilliant how the only key to unlocking our purpose is intertwined with developing a relationship with our Maker.
Just understanding that my relationship with the Lord Almighty expanded beyond asking for things that I wanted Him to do in my life and the lives of those around me was a process. It took a while to comprehend that asking the King to bend to my will wasn’t really helping me. Of course the Lord wants us to be happy and blesses us with things that will aid in our prosperity but our finite minds can only take us so far. When putting aside our wants and letting the Creator of all things have His way in our lives, doors will open that you didn’t even think could be opened. The Prince of Peace knows our hearts, knows what we truly desire and the best way to get us there all while giving Him glory and strengthening your testimony. So I’m like alright, God’s will goes, but how does one know His will?
Reading the Old Testament we saw God literally speak to His people through signs and prophets all the time. In the early New Testament when Jesus was born, the Lord used Jesus and His miracles to speak and teach His people. So now I’m like alright bet, I’m going to pray and thunder is gonna strike at the place I’m not supposed to work at or I’m going to get this big elaborate sign somewhere saying that the man I’m in relation with is the one. But when I didn’t get these big obvious signs I was always confused as to what I was doing wrong. I forgot that in the latter part of the New Testament, the world we live in now, Jesus paved the way for the Holy Spirit to dwell amongst us and in those who believed that Jesus was their personal Savior. With the Spirit of the Lord habitating in our hearts, we now have a direct link to the Ruler of the whole world. With that direct link, there’s no need for big miracles, signs and wonders. Of course Elohim will move as He pleases and if there is a need for a big miracle, sign or wonder He will outpour, but with giving us the greatest gift of the Holy Spirit, we now have access to all the answers we need within us.
This is where the relationship aspect of our journeys as Christ followers is vital. We need to tap deeper into His presence. In a relationship you need to vulnerable, express how you’re truly feeling. God already knows what we have to say but the power in each and everyone of our tongues to be able to open our mouths and speak on things that hinder us, hold us back, cause us to struggle on our journey, is another kind of power. In our confessions to the Worthy King, we are liberated and freed from a lot of shackles built on silence. From speaking about our days to our deepest darkest secrets to asking for His will to be done in our day to day lives, these are all ways we build our relationship with Him. Now this isn’t no 5 minute once a day entering into His presence prayer, but this is an elongated amount of time in prayer and just being in tune with Him all throughout our day.
Separating ourselves from things that pull us away from Him. Eliminating distractions that take our attention off of Him. Reading His Word to learn more about Him and the numerous ways He can speak. Taking time to just meditate and listen to what the Spirit is saying to us each day strengthens our relationships with God. We literally have everything we need resting in us waiting for us to want more. Want more than a mediocre walk with His Majesty. Want more than what this world has to offer. Want more than what we’ve grown comfortable with. I want so much more and you should too. I’m still learning what my unique relationship with El Shaddai looks like, but best believe I’m gonna keep reaching for higher and higher places.
Romans 5: 1-2 KJV
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”
Revelation 3 : 20 KJV
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”
